Understand the cost

Read beyond the advertised rate.

Compare the cost of borrowing before you choose a payment. Start with the APR overview, then investigate interest rates, deducted fees, repayment terms and the differences between secured and unsecured borrowing. These guides compare structures rather than rank lenders. There is no single current rate that applies to every applicant: the written offer, your circumstances and applicable law control. Keep the amount you actually receive separate from the balance you must repay.

Follow the overview with the fee guide if a deposit is smaller than the stated loan amount. Use the term comparison when a low monthly payment is the main attraction. If an agreement pledges property, review collateral separately from price. Keep a copy of each written quote and compare the same usable cash amount. Every numerical rate on these pages is hypothetical unless explicitly described otherwise; the collection is not a market survey and does not list current lender offers. The final decision should combine the cost comparison with a budget that can carry the payment through a difficult month.
