How much should you borrow? Start with the net cash need
Build a personal loan amount from the actual expense, account for deducted fees and avoid turning an approval limit into a spending target.
See how much reaches your bank account when an origination fee is deducted from the loan.
Use this tool only for fees deducted from the proceeds. Enter the face amount of the loan, the percentage fee and any additional flat fee withheld at funding. Do not use this model for a separately paid fee or a fee added on top of principal. Those arrangements have different cash flows.
Deducted fees = face amount × percentage ÷ 100 + flat fee. Cash received = face amount − deducted fees. An illustrative $10,000 loan with a 5% deducted fee and no flat charge gives you $9,500 while you still owe $10,000 principal. If you need exactly $10,000 and the only deduction is 5%, required face amount = $10,000 ÷ 0.95, or about $10,526.32. That larger balance also changes your payment and interest.
The fee percentage is not the APR. This tool does not include interest or predict eligibility. Fees cannot exceed the loan face amount in this calculator; an impossible combination produces a validation message. Confirm the final amount financed, funding amount and finance charge in the lender’s disclosures. CFPB explanation of loan fees.
